Between mid 2015 and late 2016, I landed a role in a local agency. It was a great experience. I was exposed to a wide range of possibilities that web technology could apply.
Legend digital agency is a small size company in Melbourne that specialises in providing IT solutions for local businesses. The company has its main development team offshore in China. They has helped businesses of all sizes to establish an impressive online presence. Clients ranging from small business, such as local coffee store, Real estate agency to China southern airline and growing food delivering company Ozwego.
My role had a mixed responsivities of software development, analysis, customer support and IT pre sales support. The role was a virtual link between offshore team and local customers. I was leading the delivery of projects, working on websites and building features using in house php frame work, CSS and jQuery. I also directly talked to customer providing IT supports as well as explaining technologies in pre sale activities.
It was a challenging role. I was managing multiple dead lines, consistently prioritizing support requests, gathering design documentation and communicating to the development team offshore. I was also engaged with server management such as domain, CDN, SSL, etc. It was exciting experience as we experimented many new technologies such blockchain, business terminals to collect online order, etc. We had customers coming with all kinds of unique ideas and requirements. It was quite a experience trying to provide tech solutions to help them.
What I learn from it
As software engineer we eventually build experiences which should simplify people’s life and put smile on their face. Not all company could afford the cost of polishing well crafted products. There is definitely the trade-off between speed and quality. However, IT industry is a place where winner takes all. Only quality product could last long. And as a SE there is nothing more satisfying than making the code a beautiful piece of working art.
